Target Information
The DLD gene encodes the L protein of the mitochondrial glycine cleavage system. The L protein (dihydrolipoamide dehydrogenase) is a component of several enzyme complexes, including:
- Pyruvate dehydrogenase complex
- Alpha-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase complex
- Branched-chain alpha-keto acid dehydrogenase complex
Mutations in this gene are associated with E3-deficient maple syrup urine disease and lipoamide dehydrogenase deficiency.
