Target Information
B5R is an extracellular enveloped virus (EEV)-specific Type I membrane glycoprotein essential for EEV formation. Vaccinia virus, a member of the Poxviridae family, is a dsDNA enveloped virus with four virion stages, among which EEV is critical for cell-to-cell and long-range viral infection. Some cellular antigens are associated with EEV and vary with the cell type used to grow the virus.
B5R contains a large ectodomain with regions similar to SCR domains of complement regulatory proteins, followed by a transmembrane region and a cytoplasmic tail. It is essential for efficient wrapping of IMV, actin tail formation, normal plaque size, virus virulence, and EEV formation.
