Target Information
BCAS1 was identified through positional cloning and found to be overexpressed in most, but not all, breast cancer cell lines. BCAS1 is cytoplasmically localized and is thought to form homodimers through coiled-coil structures. High levels of BCAS1 mRNA are observed in brain and prostate tissues, with lower amounts in colon, intestine, and testis. Overexpression of BCAS1 does not induce anchorage-independent growth, suggesting it is not a typical oncogene. Amplification of BCAS1 has also been reported in other carcinomas such as pancreatic carcinoma, indicating a potential role in cell proliferation control.
