Target Information
The ACSL5 protein is an isozyme of the long-chain fatty-acid-coenzyme A ligase family.
All isozymes in this family convert free long-chain fatty acids into fatty acyl-CoA esters, playing a key role in lipid biosynthesis and fatty acid degradation.
ACSL5 is highly expressed in uterus and spleen, with trace expression in normal brain, but is markedly increased in malignant gliomas.
This gene mediates fatty acid-induced glioma cell growth.
Three transcript variants encoding two different isoforms have been identified.
