Target Information
The OTUB1 gene encodes a member of the OTU superfamily of cysteine proteases. The protein functions as a highly specific ubiquitin iso-peptidase, cleaving ubiquitin from branched polyubiquitin chains but not from ubiquitinated substrates. It interacts with other ubiquitin proteases and E3 ubiquitin ligases involved in cytokine gene transcription inhibition within the immune system. OTUB1 likely participates in ubiquitin-dependent pathways by providing an editing function for polyubiquitin chain growth. Multiple transcript variants exist due to alternative splicing.
