Target Information
HMGA1 encodes a non-histone protein involved in various cellular processes, including regulation of inducible gene transcription, integration of retroviruses into chromosomes, and cancer metastasis progression.
The protein preferentially binds to the minor groove of A+T-rich regions in double-stranded DNA, exhibiting little secondary structure in solution but adopting distinct conformations when bound to DNA or other proteins. It is frequently acetylated and localized in the nucleus.
