Target Information
The SMNDC1 gene is a paralog of the SMN1 gene, which encodes the survival motor neuron protein. Mutations in SMN1 cause autosomal recessive proximal spinal muscular atrophy. The SMNDC1 protein is a nuclear component of the spliceosome complex and is abundantly expressed in skeletal muscle, potentially sharing similar cellular functions with SMN1.
