Target Information
Uteroglobin, a member of the Secretoglobin superfamily also known as Clara cell phospholipid-binding protein, is a multifunctional protein with anti-inflammatory and anti-tumorigenic properties. It binds small hydrophobic molecules such as phospholipids and prostaglandins. This small, non-glycosylated protein is highly expressed in pre-implantation embryos and secreted by non-ciliated Clara cells predominant in pulmonary airway epithelia and other non-ciliated epithelial tissues.
Members of the Secretoglobin superfamily are structurally conserved small secretory homo- or heterodimers. Uteroglobin has been implicated in the inhibition of cell migration and invasion, platelet aggregation, and T cell differentiation, as well as sequestration of pro-inflammatory mediators and carcinogens.
