Target Information
The HSP70 family comprises four highly conserved proteins: HSP70, HSC70, GRP75, and GRP78.
- HSP70 expression is strongly induced in response to heat stress.
- HSP70 and HSC70 play key roles in cytosolic, endoplasmic reticulum, and mitochondrial import machinery, and are found in both cytosol and nucleus.
- GRP78 is localized in the endoplasmic reticulum, involved in folding and translocation of nascent peptide chains.
- GRP75 is restricted to the mitochondrial matrix and aids in translocation and folding of nascent polypeptides.
Members of the HSP70 family are believed to act as force-generating motors, relying on ATP hydrolysis for activity.
