Target Information
The NOX family of NADPH oxidases consists of seven transmembrane proteins that oxidize intracellular NADPH/NADH, facilitating electron transport across the membrane and reducing molecular oxygen to superoxide.
NOX3 is predominantly expressed in the inner ear and is involved in the biogenesis of otoconia/otolith. It is suggested that NOX3 is activated by the Transient Receptor Potential Vanilloid 1 (TRPV1), leading to increased reactive oxygen species levels in the inner ear, which in turn cause STAT1-mediated inflammation and hearing loss.
