Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) family. PTPs are signaling molecules that regulate various cellular processes such as cell growth, differentiation, mitotic cycle, and oncogenic transformation.
This PTP has an extracellular region, a single transmembrane region, and an intracellular catalytic domain, representing a receptor-type PTP. The catalytic domain is closely related to PTPRN/IA-2β. Both PTPRN2 and PTPRN are major autoantigens associated with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus.
Three alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct proteins have been reported.
