IDO1은 인돌 고리를 산화적으로 절단하여 트립토판, 세로토닌, 멜라토닌 등의 대사에 관여하는 헴 함유 효소입니다. 이 효소는 다양한 인체 조직, 대식세포, 수지상세포에서 발현되며, 인터페론(IFN)에 의해 유도됩니다. IDO1은 트립토판을 분해하여 바이러스, 세균, 기생충의 성장을 억제하며, 감염, 임신, 자가면역, 이식, 종양 등에서 면역 조절에 중요한 역할을 합니다.
