Target Information
ACCN3 encodes a member of the degenerin/epithelial sodium channel (DEG/ENaC) superfamily. Members of this family are amiloride-sensitive sodium channels containing intracellular N and C termini, two hydrophobic transmembrane regions, and a large extracellular loop with conserved cysteine residues.
ACCN3 functions as an acid sensor and may play an important role in detecting sustained pH changes. It can form heteromeric associations with ACCN1 to create proton-gated channels sensitive to gadolinium.
