Zinc-fingers and homeobox (ZHX) 단백질은 전사 인자로서 NF-YA의 활성화 도메인과 상호작용합니다.
ZHX1–3은 다양한 조직에서 발현되며, 전사 억제자로 작용하고 핵에 국한됩니다.
이 단백질들은 두 개의 Cys(2)-His(2)-type zinc-finger 모티프와 다섯 개의 homeodomain(HD)을 포함하며, 동종이합체 또는 이종이합체를 형성할 수 있습니다.
그러나 이러한 이합체 형성은 억제 기능에 필수적이지 않습니다.
ZHX2의 과메틸화에 의한 발현 억제는 간세포암(HCC)에서 관찰되는 후성유전학적 사건으로 알려져 있습니다.
