Target Information
Estrogen-related receptor alpha 1 (ERRα, ERR1) is an orphan member of the nuclear hormone receptor superfamily.
All ERR family members share an almost identical DNA-binding domain, with 68% amino acid identity to the estrogen receptor.
ERRα binds to an ERR-alpha response element (ERRE) containing a single consensus half-site (5’-tnaaggtca-3’), and can interact with the medium-chain acyl coenzyme A dehydrogenase (MCAD) response element (NRRE-1).
It acts as an important regulator of the MCAD promoter and functions as a metabolic regulator, often expressed in tissues that preferentially metabolize fatty acids.
The corresponding gene for ERRα is NR3B1.
