Target Information

Zinc-finger proteins contain DNA-binding domains and have diverse functions, including transcriptional activation or repression.
ZKSCAN5 (also known as ZFP95) is a 839 amino acid protein with thirteen C2H2-type zinc fingers, one KRAB A domain, and one SCAN box domain.
It is localized in the nucleus and highly expressed in testis, with lower expression in liver, kidney, brain, muscle, lung, and heart.
KRAB A box-containing proteins often function as transcriptional repressors, suggesting a similar role for ZKSCAN5.
Alternative splicing results in three transcripts, one of which is testis-specific. The mouse homolog is differentially expressed during spermatogenesis.
