Target Information
BRP44L (brain protein 44-like protein), also known as HSPC040 or CGI-129, is a 109 amino acid mitochondrial protein belonging to the UPF0041 family. The gene encoding BRP44L maps to human chromosome 6, which contains around 1,200 genes within 170 million base pairs.
Deletion of a portion of the q arm of chromosome 6 is associated with early-onset intestinal cancer, suggesting a cancer susceptibility locus. Chromosome 6 also harbors genes related to porphyria cutanea tarda (HFE gene), Parkinson’s disease (PARK2 gene), and the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) proteins involved in immune response.
Additionally, Stickler syndrome, 21-hydroxylase deficiency, maple syrup urine disease, and bipolar disorder susceptibility loci are also linked to chromosome 6.
