Target Information

Ribonucleases (RNAses) H are enzymes that hydrolyze the RNA strands of RNA/DNA hybrids. Their major role is to remove the RNA strand from RNA/DNA hybrids formed during DNA replication and repair. RNAse H2 consists of three subunits, all required for enzymatic activity. Mutations in RNAse H2A or other subunits are associated with Aicardi-Goutieres syndrome (AGS), a neurological disorder resembling viral brain infections, characterized by elevated IFN-alpha levels in cerebrospinal fluid. Similar conditions occur with TREX1 mutations, suggesting overlapping roles in nucleic acid metabolism and innate immune activation.
