Target Information
BACE2 (Beta Secretase 2) is responsible for the proteolytic processing of amyloid precursor protein (APP).
It cleaves APP between residues 690–691, generating and releasing beta-cleaved soluble APP.
BACE2 also cleaves APP between residues 671–672.
Accumulation of APP is a hallmark of Alzheimer’s disease and a frequent complication in adult Down syndrome patients.
