HLA-DMA는 HLA class II alpha chain paralogues에 속하며, alpha (DMA)와 beta (DMB) 체인이 결합된 이종이합체 형태로 세포 내 소포에 위치합니다. DM은 MHC class II 분자의 펩타이드 로딩 과정에서 CLIP 분자를 제거하는 역할을 하며, 항원제시세포(APC: B lymphocytes, dendritic cells, macrophages)에 발현됩니다.
Alpha chain은 약 33–35 kDa이며, 유전자는 5개의 exon을 포함합니다.
