Target Information
The ADH1C gene encodes class I alcohol dehydrogenase, gamma subunit, belonging to the alcohol dehydrogenase family. These enzymes metabolize a broad range of substrates including ethanol, retinol, aliphatic alcohols, hydroxysteroids, and lipid peroxidation products. Class I alcohol dehydrogenase forms homo- and heterodimers (alpha, beta, gamma subunits) that exhibit high ethanol oxidation activity, playing a key role in ethanol catabolism. The genes encoding these subunits are organized in tandem as a gene cluster.
