Target Information

G protein-coupled receptor GPR49 (also known as LGR5) is expressed in brain, skeletal muscle, placenta, and spinal cord. ESTs have been isolated from normal human brain (amygdala), embryo, and placenta libraries, as well as from human germ cell, uterus, and brain libraries.

G-protein Coupled Receptors (GPCRs) represent one of the largest families of signaling molecules, with over a thousand predicted members. All GPCRs share a seven-transmembrane helical structure and exist in active and inactive forms. Ligand binding induces conformational changes leading to G-protein signaling and downstream effects. Negative regulation mechanisms of GPCRs are crucial for cellular physiology and are key targets for pharmacological research. Notable GPCR-targeted drugs include Zyprexa (Eli Lilly) and Claritin (Schering-Plough).
