DEDD는 death effector domain (DED)을 포함하는 단백질을 암호화합니다. DED는 세포 사멸 경로의 어댑터, 조절자 및 실행자 간의 단백질-단백질 상호작용 도메인입니다. 이 유전자의 과발현은 약한 세포자멸을 유도하는 것으로 알려져 있습니다. 자극 시, 해당 단백질은 세포질에서 핵으로 이동하며, RNA polymerase I 전사에 필요한 기본 인자인 UBTF와 핵소체에서 공동 위치합니다. 동일한 단백질을 암호화하는 최소 세 가지 전사 변이체가 보고되었습니다.
