ACCN3 encodes a member of the amiloride-sensitive sodium channel family, characterized by intracellular N- and C-termini, two hydrophobic transmembrane regions, and a large extracellular loop rich in conserved cysteine residues. This protein functions as an acid sensor and may play a role in detecting sustained pH changes. It can form heteromeric proton-gated channels with ACCN1 that are sensitive to gadolinium.
