Abciximab은 인간-마우스 키메라 단일클론 항체 7E3의 Fab 절편으로, 인간 혈소판의 GP IIb/IIIa 수용체에 결합하여 피브리노겐, 폰 빌레브란트 인자 등의 결합을 차단함으로써 혈소판 응집을 억제합니다. 또한 비트로넥틴 수용체(alpha-v-beta-3)와 결합하여 세포 부착을 차단하고, Mac-1 수용체를 억제하여 단핵구 및 호중구의 부착을 방지합니다. 이러한 작용은 수용체의 RGD 결합 부위와 직접적인 상호작용보다는 입체적 장애 및 구조적 변화에 의해 이루어지는 것으로 알려져 있습니다.
