Target Information
This gene encodes a homeobox-containing transcription factor homologous to the empty spiracles gene in Drosophila.
Research has shown its expression in:
- Dorsal telencephalon: expressed during development in a low rostral-lateral to high caudal-medial gradient, proposed to pattern the neocortex into defined functional areas.
- Olfactory neuroepithelium: expressed in embryonic and adult tissues, complexes with eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E (eIF4E), possibly regulating mRNA transport or translation.
- Urogenital system: expressed in epithelial tissues and negatively regulated by HOXA10.
Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding distinct proteins.
