Target Information
Potassium channels are present in most mammalian cells, where they participate in a wide range of physiological responses.
KCNJ16 is an integral membrane protein and inward-rectifier type potassium channel, which allows potassium to flow preferentially into a cell rather than out.
It can form heterodimers with other inward-rectifier potassium channels and may play a role in fluid and pH balance regulation.
Three transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified for this gene.
