Target Information

Adducins are heteromeric proteins composed of alpha, beta, and gamma subunits, encoded by distinct genes. They form part of the membrane skeletal network, involved in spectrin-actin assembly in erythrocytes and epithelial cell junctions.
Adducin beta expression is largely restricted to brain and hematopoietic tissues. Polymorphisms in adducin subunits have been linked to blood pressure regulation in animal models.
Each subunit has two domains: a protease-resistant globular N-terminal region and a protease-sensitive C-terminal region containing phosphorylation sites for protein kinase C, a calmodulin-binding site, and regions required for spectrin-actin association.
Various alternatively spliced adducin beta mRNAs encoding different isoforms have been described, though their specific functions remain unclear.
