TIMP-1과 TIMP-2는 matrix metalloproteinase(MMP) 패밀리의 억제 효소로, 결합조직의 구조적 안정성 유지에 중요한 역할을 합니다.
TIMP-2는 72 kDa Type IV collagenase(MMP-2 또는 gelatinase A)의 잠재형과 활성형 모두에 높은 결합 친화성을 가지며, 92 kDa Type IV collagenase(MMP-9 또는 gelatinase B)의 활성형에도 결합할 수 있습니다.
TIMP-2는 종양세포 및 정상 태반 영양막 세포의 단백질분해적 침습성을 억제하는 기능을 가집니다.
