TIMP-1과 TIMP-2는 matrix metalloproteinase(MMP) 가족의 억제 효소로, 결합조직의 구조적 안정성 유지에 중요한 역할을 합니다.
TIMP-2는 72 kDa Type IV collagenase(MMP-2, gelatinase A)의 활성형 및 전구형 모두에 높은 결합 친화도를 보이며, 92 kDa Type IV collagenase(MMP-9, gelatinase B)의 활성형에도 결합합니다.
TIMP-2는 종양세포 및 정상 태반 영양막세포의 단백질 분해 침습성을 억제하는 것으로 알려져 있습니다.
