Target Information
Focal Adhesion Kinase (FAK) is a 125 kDa non-receptor protein tyrosine kinase that acts as a substrate for Src and is a key component of integrin signaling. It plays essential roles in cell spreading, differentiation, migration, apoptosis, and cell cycle progression from G1 to S phase. FAK localizes to focal adhesions, mediating cell attachment to the extracellular matrix via integrin receptors. Increased phosphorylation of FAK occurs upon integrin engagement with fibronectin, promoting interactions with Grb2 and c-Src, and activating downstream MAP kinase signaling. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms of FAK have been identified.
