Target Information

Gas2 is a 313 amino acid protein encoded by the human gene GAS2. It plays a role in apoptosis as a substrate for caspases, particularly caspase-3 and -7, which cleave Gas2 at Asparagine 278. This cleavage induces rearrangement of the actin cytoskeleton and morphological changes in affected cells. Gas2 is also involved in membrane ruffling and is phosphorylated on serine residues during the G0–G1 transition. It co-localizes with actin fibers at cell borders and stress fibers in growth-arrested fibroblasts. Expression is highest in liver, lung, and kidney.
