This antibody detects endogenous levels of total MUC4.
Target Information
Nearly all mucosal surfaces are protected by mucin transmembrane glycoproteins, from bronchioles to corneas to reproductive tracts.
Mucin 4 (MUC4) is a membrane-bound glycoprotein important for protection and lubrication.
Aberrant MUC4 expression has been observed in various carcinomas and sarcomas, including fibromyoxoid sarcoma and pancreatic adenocarcinoma.
Immunohistochemical staining for MUC4 has been proposed as a potential biomarker for cancer detection.
MUC4 mutations are also associated with certain regional diseases such as Taiwanese infertility, endometriosis, and gallstone formation in Chinese men.
Given its role in mucosal protection, MUC4 dysfunction is linked to metastatic cancer invasion.
