This antibody recognizes a functional epitope of Fas molecule.
Target Information
FAS (Fas, CD95, APO-1) is a 46 kDa transmembrane glycoprotein functioning as a cell death receptor of the TNFR superfamily. It also exists in a soluble form (~26 kDa). Upon stimulation, FAS aggregates its intracellular FADD domains, forming the death-inducing signaling complex (DISC) and activating caspases, leading to apoptosis.
FAS has been shown to activate NF-kappaB, MAPK3/ERK1, and MAPK8/JNK pathways, and is involved in proliferative signaling in fibroblasts and T cells.
Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants exist, with some isoforms lacking the transmembrane domain that may negatively regulate apoptosis.
The Fas/Fas ligand system is implicated in diseases such as AIDS, hepatitis, and cancer, and plays a key role in antiviral immune responses.
