This peptide corresponds to 16 amino acids at the amino terminus of mouse Caspase-12.
PEP-0087 can be used as a blocking peptide with polyclonal antibody PA5-19962.
Target Information
Three distinct signaling pathways lead to programmed cell death (apoptosis). The death receptor and mitochondrial pathways are the main routes, involving the key apoptotic proteases caspase-8 and caspase-9, respectively.
The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress pathway represents the third apoptotic mechanism, in which caspase-12 is involved. Caspase-12 is localized to the ER but not to the cytoplasm or mitochondria. It is activated by ER stress, including disruption of ER calcium homeostasis, and mediates ER stress-induced apoptosis.
Caspase-12 is co-localized in the ER with several proteins associated with Alzheimer’s disease, such as γ-secretase presenilin and β-amyloid precursor protein (APP). It mediates cytotoxicity induced by amyloid-beta and is ubiquitously expressed in mouse tissues.
