EHD1는 초기 엔도솜 막 융합 및 재활용 엔도솜의 막 수송 과정에 관여합니다. 또한 근육세포 융합에 역할을 하며, 신경 성장 인자 자극 시 엔도솜 막으로 유입되어 신경돌기 성장 조절에 간접적으로 관여합니다.
EHD1은 EPS15 homology (EH) 도메인을 포함하는 단백질을 암호화하는 고도로 보존된 유전자군에 속합니다. EH 도메인은 단백질-단백질 상호작용 및 세포 내 단백질 분류에 중요한 모티프로 알려져 있습니다.
EHD1 단백질은 IGF1 수용체의 엔도사이토시스에 관여하는 것으로 생각되며, 대체적으로 스플라이싱된 전사 변이체가 보고되었습니다.
