Target Information
ZEB1 (Zinc finger E-box-binding homeobox 1) acts as a transcriptional repressor. It inhibits interleukin-2 (IL-2) gene expression and modulates ATP1A1 promoter activity depending on cell type and cDNA quantity. ZEB1 represses E-cadherin promoters, inducing epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) through SMARCA4/BRG1 recruitment. It also represses BCL6 transcription with CTBP1, regulates neuronal differentiation, and represses RCOR1 activation during neurogenesis. Mutations can lead to corneal dystrophy, posterior polymorphous corneal dystrophy, and Fuchs endothelial dystrophy.
