Target Information
NRF1 encodes a transcription factor that homodimerizes and activates expression of key metabolic genes regulating cellular growth, respiration, heme biosynthesis, and mitochondrial DNA transcription and replication. It is also associated with neurite outgrowth regulation. Alternate splice variants encoding the same protein have been characterized, and additional isoforms have been described but not fully characterized. Note that confusion may occur due to the shared symbol “NRF1” with nuclear factor (erythroid-derived 2)-like 1 (official symbol: NFE2L1).
