Target Information
B7-H4 (also known as B7x, VTCN1) is a costimulatory protein that functions as a negative regulator of T-cell mediated immunity. Although its receptor is unknown, B7-H4 is believed to deliver an inhibitory signal to T cells, suppressing their proliferation, cell cycle progression, and interleukin-2 production.
B7-H4 is expressed on activated T cells, B cells, monocytes, and dendritic cells. Aberrant expression has been linked to cancers of the lung, breast, and ovary. Overexpression may allow tumor cells to evade immune detection, making B7-H4 a potential biomarker for early detection of ovarian cancer and renal cell carcinoma (RCC).
