AGO3 (protein argonaute-3)는 RNA 매개 유전자 침묵(RNAi)에 필수적인 단백질로, microRNA(miRNA)와 같은 짧은 RNA에 결합하여 상보적인 mRNA의 번역을 억제합니다. 또한 줄기세포 내 DR2 retinoic acid response element (RARE)를 포함하는 RNA polymerase III 전사 Alu 반복 서열로부터 유래된 소형 RNA(riRNA)의 안정화 및 RNA polymerase II 전사 코딩 mRNA의 riRNA 의존적 분해 과정에 관여하는 것으로 알려져 있습니다.
