Target Information
EXOSC7 is a non-catalytic component of the RNA exosome complex with 3′→5′ exoribonuclease activity, involved in RNA processing and degradation.
In the nucleus, it contributes to maturation of rRNA, snRNA, and snoRNA, and removal of non-coding RNA species and defective mRNAs, preventing their export to the cytoplasm.
In the cytoplasm, it mediates mRNA turnover and degradation of unstable transcripts containing AU-rich elements, as well as histone mRNA degradation.
The catalytic inactive core complex (Exo-9) serves as a scaffold for association with catalytic subunits and accessory proteins.
