Target Information

MKK6 (MEK6, MAP2K6) is a member of the dual specificity protein kinase family, functioning as a mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinase kinase. MAP kinases act as integration points for multiple biochemical signals. MEK6 phosphorylates and activates p38 MAP kinase in response to inflammatory cytokines or environmental stress.
This protein is an essential component of the p38 MAP kinase-mediated signal transduction pathway, involved in cellular processes such as stress-induced cell cycle arrest, transcription activation, and apoptosis.
Tissue specificity: Isoform 2 is expressed only in skeletal muscle, while Isoform 1 is found in skeletal muscle, heart, and to a lesser extent in liver and pancreas.
