Target Information
The Gelsolin protein binds to the plus ends of actin monomers and filaments, preventing monomer exchange. This calcium-regulated protein plays roles in both assembly and disassembly of actin filaments. Mutations in this gene are associated with familial amyloidosis Finnish type (FAF). Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
