• Immunoelectrophoresis shows a single precipitin arc against anti-goat serum and purified human plasma a2-Macroglobulin.
• Cross-reactivity with a2-Macroglobulin from other sources is unknown.

Target Information

Alpha 2-Macroglobulin (α2M) is an approximately 720 kDa homotetrameric glycoprotein composed of four identical 180 kDa subunits.
It shares structural similarity with other alpha-macroglobulins such as complement components C3, C4, and pregnancy zone protein (PZP).
α2M acts as a panprotease inhibitor, binding a wide range of proteinases and serving as a humoral defense barrier against foreign peptides.
In Alzheimer’s disease (AD) brains, α2M is localized to diffuse amyloid plaques, suggesting a role in AD pathogenesis.
