This antibody detects endogenous levels of total MRPS28.
Target Information
Mammalian mitochondrial ribosomal proteins are encoded by nuclear genes and play a key role in mitochondrial protein synthesis. Mitochondrial ribosomes (mitoribosomes) consist of a small 28S subunit and a large 39S subunit, with approximately 75% protein and 25% rRNA composition. Unlike prokaryotic ribosomes, mammalian mitoribosomes lack a 5S rRNA. The proteins composing the mitoribosome vary significantly among species, making sequence homology recognition difficult. This gene encodes a 28S subunit protein, also referred to as mitochondrial ribosomal protein S35 in literature.
