Catalyzes the formation of NAD(+) from nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) and ATP.
Can also use the deamidated form (nicotinic acid mononucleotide, NaMN) as a substrate with the same efficiency.
Uses triazofurin monophosphate (TrMP), GTP, and ITP as nucleotide donors.
Also catalyzes the reverse reaction (pyrophosphorolytic cleavage of NAD(+)).
Can utilize NAD(+), NADH, NAAD, NHD, and NGD as substrates but not NADP(+), NADPH, or NAADP(+).
Protects against axonal degeneration following injury.
