Target Information
USP7 (also known as HAUSP) is a ubiquitin-specific protease that removes ubiquitin from substrates, thereby regulating protein stability. It is known as a direct antagonist of Mdm2, the E3 ubiquitin ligase for p53, and can stabilize p53 by preventing its degradation. This suggests a potential tumor-suppressor function in response to cellular stress. HAUSP also plays roles in oncogenic pathways involving Myc and E1A, possibly providing an alternative mechanism to maintain p53 stability independent of ARF.
