Target Information
PDGFRA (Platelet-Derived Growth Factor Receptor Alpha) is a cell surface receptor tyrosine kinase that binds platelet-derived growth factor family members. These growth factors act as mitogens for mesenchymal-origin cells. The receptor forms homodimers or heterodimers (with PDGFRB) depending on the bound ligand. Knockout studies indicate PDGFRA plays a critical role in kidney development, as heterozygous mice show defective kidney phenotypes.
