Target Information
Cytokine receptor signaling is negatively regulated by the SOCS (Suppressor of Cytokine Signaling) family, which includes eight members: SOCS-1 to SOCS-7 and CIS. These proteins contain an N-terminal variable region, a central SH2 domain, and a C-terminal SOCS box motif. SOCS proteins form part of a classical negative feedback loop that regulates cytokine signal transduction via a STAT-induced transcriptional mechanism. Each SOCS gene is rapidly transcribed in response to cytokines, and the resulting proteins inhibit signaling through distinct mechanisms.
