Target Information

The TYR-related proteins, TRP1 and TRP2, are specifically expressed in melanocytes and contribute to melanin synthesis within melanosomes. These TRPs, including TYR, share a similar transmembrane region, contain two metal-binding regions and a cysteine-rich epidermal growth factor motif, and are localized in the melanosomal membrane. While they form multi-enzyme complexes, each TRP has distinct catalytic activity contributing individually to melanin biopolymer biosynthesis. TRP1 expression also stabilizes TYR in melanocytes.
